EARTH HOUR : FIRST TIME IN INDONESIA
This year, for the very first time Earth Hour implemented in Indonesia, and Jakarta chosen as the first area for Indonesia kick off.
On Saturday, 28 March 2009, starting from 8.30pm, the community of Jakarta will witness and be part of global action in switching off lights for 1 hour.
At the same time, the lights of Indonesian historical building like National Monument and Jakarta’s landmark such as Pemuda Statue, Semanggi Bridge, HI roundabout, Arjuna Wiwaha waterfall will be switch off incuding governor’s office.
HOW IMPORTANT IS EARTH HOUR FOR JAKARTA?
Switching off the lights in Jakarta and its surrounding for one hour, is equal to:
• Reduce 300 MWh of electricity usage (enough to rest 1 power plant and provide electricity to
• Save up the average electricity bills of Jakarta around IDR 200 million or more than USD 18 grand
• Reduce 284 tones of CO2
• Save more than 284 trees
• Produce clean air for more than 568 people

Lastly, I hope that this Earth Hour event becomes an annual campaign because it gives a tremendously HUGE contribution not only for our own city, but also the whole world as in our earth. We always depend on our earth for our needs, then why when our earth needs us, we think twice?
